DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:

A four-story building in Harlem, New York, faced significant issues. The old staircases on the first two floors had been replaced by solid walls, making them narrow and dark. Additionally, all eight rooms in the building had small, dirty bathrooms and kitchens that were shared among residents. The property owner's goal was to address functional problems rather than aesthetics. The decision was made to renovate the entire staircase and one of the floors to restore the staircases to their former state and convert each room into a complete studio, each with its bathroom, kitchen, and as much storage as possible. The design and implementation timeline was set to thirty days to minimize disturbance to the residents of the other floors. Therefore, the renovation focused solely on resolving the building's functional issues and the specified floor.
